Pool Rules

  • State Law requires all swimmers to take a soap shower before entering and re-entry to the pool and hot tub.

  • All swimmers must wear bathing suits. Cutoffs, gym or tennis shorts are not allowed.

  • Swim caps MUST be worn if hair length is below the ear or in the eyes of male and female swimmers.

  • Please do not enter the pool if you are experiencing or recovering from diarrhea or if you have had any signs or symptoms of stomach disease in the previous seven days.

  • Persons showing evidence of any communicable skin disease including open sores, blisters or cuts, sore or inflamed eyes, cold, nasal or ear discharge or any other communicable disease should not enter the pool or hot tub without written permission from a medical professional.

  • Children who are not toilet trained or children who are recently toilet trained MUST wear a swimming diaper AND rubber swim pants that fit snuggly at the waist and legs with their bathing suit.

  • Children should be encouraged to use the restroom before entering the water.

  • Immediately report any “accidents” you observe in the pool or on the pool deck to a lifeguard or management.

  • Coast Guard approved life vests are the only acceptable flotation device during open swim.

  • Any child wearing a life vest must be within arm’s reach and directly supervised in the water by an adult over the age of 18. One adult may only supervise one child in a life vest at any time. Life vests are available in the Huber Pool area at no cost. Instructional flotation devices (swim lesson bubbles) are not allowed during open swim.

  • Spitting or splashing water is prohibited.

  • All swimmers must enter and leave through locker rooms or the back vestibule, not through the Emergency Door.

  • Parents and guests may observe lessons in the Bodman Pool from the pool viewing area and in the Huber Pool from the Bodman deck or the back vestibule.

  • Photographs and video are strictly prohibited. Photographs are allowed the last day of classes.

  • Food or beverages are not allowed on pool decks.

  • With the exception of swim meets, special events and disabled persons, no outdoor footwear is allowed on the pool decks including sandals and flip-flops worn outside of the facility.

  • Strollers are not allowed on the pool decks or in pool vestibule.

  • Children 9 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18 in the pool areas.

  • Toys, aquatic exercise equipment and floats are not permitted in either pool during open swim times.

  • Conduct which endangers the safety and comfort of others shall be prohibited.

  • Lightning Policy – The YMCA will require immediate closure of all pools in the event that lightning or thunder is present in or around the area. The pools will remain closed until 30 minutes past the last visible lightning strike or episode of thunder.

  • Aquatics management and lifeguards will enforce any rule as deemed necessary to ensure the safety of the aquatic facility and our members and guests.

  • Children under the age of 18 are not permitted in the whirlpool or hot tub at any time.
