The Community YMCA Launches Free Youth Membership Initiative in Red Bank

Through the Generosity of Area Donors, Students are Awarded a Healthy Kids Membership for Free YMCA Access

Red Bank, NJ (December 9, 2010) – As part of the Y’s commitment to nurturing the development of children and providing opportunities to improve their health and wellness, The Community YMCA announces the launch of its new Healthy Kids Membership initiative, which gives all Red Bank youth, grades K-8, a special free membership and access to weekly family activities.

Membership includes scheduled use of the Y’s gymnasium and pools, special blocks of fun activities, supervised recreation, and regular events for the entire family. Healthy Kids members will enjoy Youth Gym, Mondays, 5-6:30 p.m. and the whole family is invited for Family Swim Night, Fridays, 7-8:45 p.m. and Family Gym, Saturdays, 4-6 p.m. New, added activities will be available throughout the year.

“At the Y, we believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve,” said Lisa Christian, President and CEO of The Community YMCA.  “With the growing childhood obesity epidemic, we want to ensure that every child in Red Bank can be more physically active, learn healthier habits and spend more quality time with their family.”

Red Bank Superintendent of Schools, Laura Morana said, “Our hope is that all children and families in Red Bank take advantage of this wonderful initiative to increase their health and well being.”

The free youth membership, available through August 21, 2011, is made possible thanks to the generosity of area donors who support the Y’s annual Strong Kids Campaign. This past year, The Community YMCA provided more than $1.2 million in free and subsidized programs and services to more than 3,000 Monmouth County families.

To sign up for this membership, families may stop by the Y anytime with a copy of their child’s report card, progress report or placement letter.  Special kickoff hours and tours for Red Bank families are available every day through December 19th at the Y, located at 166 Maple Avenue, Red Bank.
