YMCA Program Teaches Red Bank Third Graders to Swim

Red Bank, NJ - The Community YMCA recently completed their Third Grade Swim Program at the Y's Family Health & Wellness Center teaching 120 3rd graders from Red Bank Primary School and Red Bank Charter School swim basics to prepare them for summer.

“As part of the Y’s commitment to water safety, we provide this important service to 3rd grade children in our community,” said Rebecca Rivera, Aquatics Director at The Community YMCA. “This is our second year of the program and we’re pleased with the swim skills and knowledge that each of the children gain as a result of the Y and our dedicated instructors.”

Drowning is the number one leading cause of accidental death among children under 5 and the second cause of accidental death of those aged 5 – 24.  With recent drownings in our area, the Y stresses the importance of keeping safe in and around the water this summer.  To prepare the community, the Y offers water safety tips here.
