Dedicated to Kids In Our Community
During the summer, the Y’s commitment to nurturing the development of kids increases through our support of a variety of community programs that keep kids safe and active.
In addition to the enriching experiences we provide to the more than 1,500 children at our 8 camp locations throughout Monmouth County, this summer we helped 15 other youth organizations provide opportunities for kids in our community to reach their full potential.
Here are just a few:
Horizons Program - A 6-week program with a blend of academic, cultural and recreational activities for low-income kids in grades K-8 offered at Rumson Country Day School, this enrichment camp relies on the Y for certified lifeguards, swim instructors and pool maintenance. The Y has been a partner in this program for several years, and this year helped enhance the swim component by adding swim lessons in our 25-yard pool in Red Bank in addition to the lessons we teach in the private backyard pools in the program.
“Many of the kids live in Red Bank and only know the outside of our building, but after coming here in the summer, they feel more comfortable and are spending more time at the Y,” said Family Health & Wellness Aquatics Director Rebecca Rivera.
Pool School – Red Bank youth advocate David Prown leads this summer swim program with support from the Y and St. Anthony’s Church. This summer, 26 kids from Red Bank gained confidence from weekly swim lessons, recreational swim and cardio activities in the Zone, our new youth and teen center, at the Red Bank Family Health & Wellness Center.
Ultimate Sports Camp – Our team of aquatics professionals, led by Assistant Aquatics Director Len Wurtzel, assisted the Ultimate Sports Camp in Deal with lifeguards, swim instructors and pool maintenance. More than 600 kids from New Jersey and New York attended the camp.
Camp Bridge – Camp Zehnder, our signature day camp in Wall Township, is host to Camp Bridge, a summer camp program for special needs children ages 4-13.
