No-Cost Course on Chronic Disease

Are you or someone you know coping with arthritis, diabetes, depression or another chronic health condition?

Discover healthier ways to live, gain confidence and motivation to manage chronic health conditions and feel more positive.  <--break->Sign up for Better Choices, Better Health, a no-cost chronic disease self-management program developed by Stanford University and being offered by the Monmouth County Regional Health Commission and the Red Bank YMCA.

The 6-week program will take place Tuesdays, July 27-August 31, 2010, from 6:30-9 p.m. at The Community YMCA Family Health & Fitness Center in Red Bank. Refreshments will be served at each meeting. It open to adults 18 and older who are experiencing chronic health conditions as well as their family members, friends and caregivers.

Course participants will learn how to:

  • Manage symptoms
  • Get started with healthy eating & exercise
  • Communicate effectively with doctors & health care professionals
  • Manage anger, fear and frustration
  • Make daily tasks easier
  • Get more out of life

Research confirms that after the course, participants reported increased healthful behaviors, better symptom management, improved health status and fewer medical visits.
