How do I know what level my child is in group lessons?

If your child has taken Progressive Swim Lessons at another YMCA, the levels are the same.  If not, please view the class descriptions.

When can I sign up for group swim lessons?

You can sign up during the registration period.  Please view the latest program guide for registration dates.

Do I need to be a member to take a group or private lesson?

No, nonmembers can take swim lessons at the nonmember rate.

How do I get private or semi-private lessons for my child or myself?

Private lessons are on a first come, first service bases. Please call the Welcome Center at (732) 741-2504 for availability of the pool and swim instructor.

When can I sign up for private lessons?

Unlike group lessons, private lessons do not follow the same registration dates that group lessons do. They run according to availability of pool space and swim instructors.

How many private lessons do I need to sign up for?

Each time you sign up for private lessons you have to sign up for a minimum of 4 lessons or as many as 8.

How do I swim when the pool is crowded?

The Bodman Pool is set up that the outer most lanes are for the slowest swimmers, the next two lanes are for the medium swimmers and the center two lanes are for the fastest swimmers. Start in the slowest lanes and work your way in toward the center until you find a lane that has others swimming at the same or similar speed.

How am I supposed to swim if there are more than two people in the lane?

You must circle swim. Circle swim is where everyone in the lane goes up the right side of the lane and comes back on their right again. They do not cross the black line down the center of the lane for any reason. If you catch up to the person in front of you swimming, slow down, and at the wall switch positions.

How can I sign up for a FitLinxx orientation?

You can sign for an orientation at the Welcome Center; it is best for you to sign up right after you join The Community YMCA. Thus, you can start your workout with confidence and motivation.

What is FitLinxx?

FitLinxx is a specially designed computer system that is attached to our Cybex Strength circuit, and is designed to assist you in your workout. It can be programmed to remember the proper weights, seat settings and range of motion.  FitLinxx can also be a motivational tool, as the user gets "points" for accomplishing both cardiovascular and strength exercises. The trainers may also interact with the member by emailing in the FitLinxx system.
