The Y is committed to healthy living and is a national leader in diabetes management and prevention in our local communities. According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, diabetes affects 25.8 million people in the United States, and recent studies estimate that 79 million Americans over the ages of 20 have prediabetes. People with diabetes are between 2-4 times more likely to have a stroke, suffer from heart disease, and are at a greater risk for nerve damage, dental disease, lower limb amputation, depression, and complications during pregnancy.
As a part of this national effort, The Community YMCA partners locally with Parker Family Health Center, a volunteer-based free health care facility in Red Bank, to support their patients in managing their Type 2 Diabetes through regular exercise at the Y and improve patients' health and well-being.
